CCL Secure Congratulates the Bank of Thailand on the Launch of New Polymer Banknotes

CCL Secure extends its congratulations to the Bank of Thailand (BOT) on the successful launch of its new THB50 and THB100 polymer banknotes, which will be issued into circulation from November 21, 2025. This launch builds on the proven success of the THB20 note, continuing Thailand's strategic move to a more durable and secure currency.

The Bank of Thailand, under the leadership of Governor Setthaput Suthiwatnarueput, continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing the public with high-quality, safe, and secure banknotes. The new THB50 and THB100 notes will retain the familiar designs of the current paper versions while incorporating advanced security features and the benefits of a modern polymer substrate. Notably, this is the first time a 100-baht polymer banknote will be introduced, a denomination that accounts for one-third of all banknotes in circulation.

The Benefits of Polymer

The durability of polymer banknotes is a key advantage. Studies by the BOT reported that the THB20 polymer banknote is four times more durable than its paper counterpart. This longevity dramatically reduces the need for replacements, which is projected to save at least 350 million banknotes per year. This significant reduction in production, transportation, and resource use offers both long-term cost savings and a lower environmental impact. Additionally, polymer notes are the only commercially recyclable substrate, a further benefit for the environment.

The new banknotes incorporate a range of advanced security features, including the complex window. The THB100 note includes a GSWITCH™ dynamic colour-shifting feature that makes a flower on the note change from purple to orange when tilted. A secondary window contains a METALIX™ pentagon with a brilliant metallic sheen and a lustrous gold finish by CCL Secure.
