CCL Secure is thrilled to win the Energy Management Award together with Verco at the Energy Institute Awards ceremony held on 23rd Nov at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel in London.
CCL Secure’s Wigton site in the UK was recognised for its remarkable efforts in its sustainability journey, achieving a 26 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions, 31 per cent reduction in energy consumption and 40 per cent reduction in water usage per tonne of product, since 2018.

This achievement is testimony to our hard work and commitment to increasing the sustainability of our manufacturing operations, alongside our products, “says Gary Frizell, Engineering and Sustainability Manager at CCL Secure.
With the support of sustainability consultants Verco, CCL Secure has reduced its manufacturing emissions across all three scopes of greenhouse gases, excluding carbon offsets and market-based instruments while adding to the bottom line and engaging the value chain.
These results have been achieved with a multi-point approach. A rigorous aM&T (automatic monitoring and targeting) system, developed by CCL Secure’s engineering team, maximises efficiency through the reduction of baseload energy. There has been on-site optimisation and smart scheduling of steam, gas and electricity usage, as well as LED lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC).
CCL Secure also reduced emissions significantly from the incoming transportation of goods to Wigton, achieving a 90 per cent reduction and not using air transport in 2021.
“Our journey has been significant, but we don’t rest on our laurels. Other initiatives we have invested in is the in-house manufacture of previously sourced raw materials. We are also on track to achieving zero waste to landfill by the end of the year.
“We are very proud of our results, which showcase that our business goals can be achieved in tandem with our commitment towards a net zero world,” Mr. Frizell added.
